DJODJE
Fernando Jorge Marta Silva, professionally known as Djodje, is a Cape Verdean singer, songwriter, and producer, born on January 15, 1989, in the city of Praia, Cape Verde. He grew up in a deeply musical family — his father was a guitarist for the legendary band Os Tubarões, while his mother comes from the Marta family, renowned for its singers and composers — which strongly shaped his artistic foundation.
Djodje began his musical journey at a very young age. At the age of 10, he formed the group TC with family members and friends. One year later, he won a young singers’ competition in Praia, quickly establishing himself as a promising talent. In 2001, at just 12 years old, he recorded the song “Volta” with TC for a summer compilation album. The track became an immediate hit, dominating radio charts in Cape Verde and across the Portuguese-speaking world, marking the official start of his professional career.
In 2006, Djodje released his debut solo album “Sempre TC”, featuring collaborations with artists such as Don Kikas and Heavy H. The album launched his international career, followed by “Check-In” (2010), “Feedback” (2013), “Newborn” (2019), and “Mininu di Oru” (2021), an album celebrating 20 years of career and solidifying his status as one of the most influential contemporary Cape Verdean artists. He also released the EPs “Live Session” (2020) and “Elements” (2024), alongside numerous successful singles.
Throughout his career, Djodje has collaborated with a wide range of renowned artists including Nelson Freitas, Dino d’Santiago, Élida Almeida, Ferro Gaita, Princezito, Ricky Boy, David Carreira, Cuca Roseta, Julinho KSD, Deejay Télio, and many others, highlighting his versatility within the Afro-pop and Lusophone music scene.
Known for his powerful stage presence, Djodje has performed at major music festivals in Cape Verde and on prestigious stages across Portugal, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the United States, Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Cabo Verde Music Awards (CVMA), Kizomba Music Awards, and International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA), notably for Best Live Performer and Male Artist of the Year.
In 2009, Djodje co-founded the independent label Broda Music with his brother Peps and cousin Ricky Boy. With over 16 years of activity, the label has surpassed 200 million views and 430,000 subscribers on YouTube. On Spotify alone, Djodje reached more than 31 million streams and 2.18 million listeners in 2024.
In recent years, he also co-created the Kriol King project with Nelson Freitas, bringing together major Cape Verdean artists for sold-out shows across Europe, the United States, and Cape Verde.
With more than two decades of career, Djodje stands today as one of the most respected voices in Cape Verdean music and a leading figure of Lusophone Afro-pop, combining deep cultural roots with a modern and international artistic vision.
